Random Ramblings

Okay, my first day of "I'm going to eat really healthy" failed utterly, consisting of lunch at a cafe and fast-food for dinner. So in recompense, I decided to brave the soon-to-be-inclement weather and run away from zombies.

After my very last-minute call for crash space a few days ago, things are shaping up for Roses next weekend. I've had no less than three offers for crash space, and it looks like I'll be staying in Harvey's tent -- he might even be rigging up a divider to give me some privacy -- and joining in on the Vestfell meal plan. And, of course, eating at the Wok at least once!

I've also taken off Monday from work, so that means I'll have all day Sunday to spend at the event. Yay! Less of a whirlwind tour for me! *Two* possible nights for bardic! Yay!

I checked out the car, topped up all the fluids, put air in the tires, and made sure the registration is up to date and my mom's "yes, my daughter can drive the car" letter is still floating around in there somewhere. So, all things considered, plans are coming together! Huzzah!

Harenhal is over, and the Riverlands, Stormlands, and Reach are all in the midst of civil wars. Soren and Lyra bring men to relieve the siege on Lord Piper of Pinkmaiden, one of Lukas' bannermen. Lukas and Kyran, meanwhile, are on a boat moving west past the southern coast of Dorne, headed for the Arbor, Oldtown, and ultimately the Iron Islands. And Jeyne, who has been waiting to show her prowess in war her whole life... is in the middle of nowhere, caged by Southrosi natives, having been captured by three different factions in a month. Because life is unfair.

So that's it for this week. Next time: more war! More plotting! More... running away from natives? Most likely.

Hypothetically, if I were to go down to War of the Roses next weekend, arriving early-to-mid afternoon Saturday and leaving mid-afternoon Sunday, would anyone have crash space in their tent for me? I'd need room for a sleeping bag, ideally a pop-up (single) bed frame, and one or two small bags.

I do own a tent, but it's a pain to set up for just one night, and I was hoping that someone would be able to offer me crash space instead.

I know, I know. Technically my birthday was yesterday. But today is the first unbirthday of my thirtieth year, so I figure that's good enough. I'm not entirely sure what I want to say, so this might be a little brain-dumpy, but I figure in another few years I might want to look back on this round-numbered birthday and see what I was thinking. Remember, this is for posterity so be honest. How do you feel?

Y'know, I'd never heard the term "funfetti" until a few months ago, and now I'm suddenly seeing it everywhere. I guess it's the new hot trend in cooking. Well, that and cake pops. (God, how I hate cake pops. Tasty like cakes but gone far too quickly.)

Anyway, when I saw the pictures for these funfetti cookies I thought I might try them out. I mean, they're certainly festive enough for my birthday!

They're pretty simple to make, though they do use a lot of sprinkles. Almost a full jar of the straight ones. And they spread quite a bit; the recipe is right when it says you can only fit eight on a tray at a time. The recipe also doesn't say how much it makes; I found it made 24, your mileage may vary. I also found I had to use my hands for mixing, especially for folding in the sprinkles. The wooden spoon and rubber spatula just weren't working out.

In any case, they are very, very tasty and I'm going to have a hard time waiting until game to eat them. Because they're really tasty. Soft and chewy with just a little crunch. Wonderful. I'll make these again, though it means going through the sprinkles pretty darn fast.

It's my birthday! And as a special present, I discovered that Six to Start had featured me in their shout-out to Zombies, Run fans! How exciting! Of course, with all that hype, I had to run another mission today. Maybe the zombies have birthday cake. (No! The cake is a lie!)

A fairly low-key session last night, involving a lot of gold flowing into the hands of Our Heroes (tm), partly as payment for ridding Mirrarod of the Devil of Envy, and partly from an exotic animals dealer for bringing him the rare Blade-Tailed Minsk. Of course, first we actually had to get the rare bird to him, which proved to be slightly more difficult than anticipated...

I realize I haven't actually posted the quotes from last session's Game of Thrones game yet, but this is mostly because the session involved a lot of logistics and not many clever quotes. Next "Game of Tomes" will be a double-header.

That said, a lot has been happening. Quite a lot, in fact. Among other things, Jeyne's been kidnapped. Several times. With several companions. This story is set after the last "Game of Tomes" and explains -- more or less coherently, I hope -- what's been happening to my character in the meantime.
