Industrious Montrealers can look on page A2 of today's Gazette to see a graph. This graph maps the price of gas (adjusted for inflation) for the last 25 years or so. One thing these industrious Montrealers will notice is that the current spike in gas prices (Montreal prices, as of yesterday, were over $1.08) began in 2002-3 and hasn't stopped skyrocketing since.
Despite what analysts might say, I have a simple explanation for this: I started needing a car to go to work in 2003. Obviously, gas prices started to increased because The Universe knew that for the first time in my life I needed a car and could not get where I was going by public transit. This is why gas prices are nearly double what they were two years ago.
But never fear, next year (with a little luck) I will not be working at the same job! If all goes well, my job next year will be somewhere along the metro lines, and I will not need a car. Thus, The Universe will know that raising gas prices is no longer necessary to torment me and will move on to other methods, and the price of gas will drop. So don't worry, driving readers, these exorbitant gas prices won't last long!
